Police have charged a man following the death of a 71-year-old man in an alleged hunting incident near Cassilis on Wednesday morning.
Emergency services were called to a property on Rotherwood Road about 8:50am, following reports a man had sustained a gunshot wound.
Officers from Hunter Valley Police District were told the man was hunting on the property when the incident occurred. NSW Ambulance paramedics attended but were unable to revive him.
A crime scene was established, and following inquiries, police arrested a 63-year-old man.
He was taken to Muswellbrook Police Station and charged with manslaughter and firing a firearm in a manner likely to injure persons or property.
His bail was refused, and he is due to appear before Local Bail Division Court 2 on today (Thursday, 9 October 2025).
