A man is in custody following the death of a woman in Kearsley, near Cessnock, overnight.
Police had earlier appealed for public assistance to locate a 37-year-old man believed to be able to assist with their inquiries. He was arrested this afternoon after being seen in Bellbird.
When police searched the vehicle he was travelling in, officers allegedly located a sawn-off shotgun and ammunition, which have been seized for forensic examination. The man has been taken to Cessnock Police Station.
A black Hyundai Tucson has also been seized as part of the investigation.
The arrest follows the discovery of a woman’s body inside a home on Ellalong Street, Kearsley, around 7.30 pm Friday (31 October 2025).
Local detectives, assisted by the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, have established Strike Force Keavall to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.
Police have confirmed the matter is being treated as domestic-violence-related, and inquiries are continuing.
