A Muswellbrook Shire Councillor said there was no good reason for his colleagues to force the latest discussion about red bin collections to be conducted in secret.
The Hunter Valley Newsroom and a member of the public were kicked out of the meeting when the majority of councillors voted to take the discussion into Committee of the Whole.
It’s been revealed the number of people seeking to maintain a weekly red bin collection in Muswellbrook was initially less than 100.
Muswellbrook Shire Council has rejected a proposal to remove the weekly option altogether after being advised by the contractor they had issues with continuing the service at the current cost.
Councillor Jeff Drayton said the move to keep the discussion secret didn’t pass the pub test.
