Local businesses across the Hunter region are set to benefit from the Federal Labor Government’s new $50 million Accessing New Markets Initiative (ANMI), a program designed to help Australian companies expand into international markets.

The initiative provides targeted support to help businesses identify new partners, enter new markets, and build the capacity to sell their products globally. For the Hunter, this means a significant boost for local industries, from advanced manufacturing and agriculture to resources and services.

The ANMI is being managed by the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) in close collaboration with national peak industry bodies. This model is designed to provide fast, flexible, and targeted support, including additional in-market trade advisors and enhanced offshore events.

The initiative builds on the government’s recent successes in opening up new trade opportunities, particularly with major economies like China, India, and the United Arab Emirates. The ANMI is a key part of the government’s strategy to help Australian exporters navigate a changing global trade landscape and remain competitive.

Federal Member for Hunter Dan Repacholi believes the best producers are right here in the Hunter.

“The Hunter is already known for producing some of the best wine, beef, coal, and manufactured goods in the world,” Repacholi said.

“This package will help our local businesses get more of those products onto more tables, into more factories, and across more industries around the globe.

Accessing new markets means jobs stay right here in the Hunter. When our businesses are able to sell more overseas, they can keep more people employed at home.

“The way the world does business is changing, and we have got a chance to get ahead of the curve. This is about making sure the Hunter is not left behind but is leading the charge.

“Helping local businesses grow and compete at a global level is just common sense. More exports mean more jobs and more opportunities right here in our region.
