The Federal Government has cleared the way for MACH Energy to expand and extend the life of it’s Mount Pleasant coal mine at Muswellbrook.
The sign off from Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek follows approval by the State’s Independent Planning Panel last year.
The next move for MACH Energy is to fight a legal challenge to the New South Wales conditional sign off.
Under the plan, MACH Energy would expand the size of the Mount Pleasant Open Cut coal pit and extend the operating life of the mine by another 22 years to 2048.
The extension and expansion will create 447 direct and indirect full time equivalent jobs in the Muswellbrook and Upper Hunter local government areas and 643 full-time equivalent jobs in the wider Hunter Valley region.
