Cassilis community leader Jane Hegarty has been named the 2026 Upper Hunter Electorate Woman of the Year at the NSW Women of the Year Awards in Sydney. The honour recognises her extensive work to improve services and opportunities for the Cassilis district.

Member for Upper Hunter Dave Layzell said the award reflects the positive impact Jane has had on the region.

“Our community is incredibly proud to see Jane Hegarty honoured at the NSW Women of the Year Awards. Through her work in the Cassilis district, she has delivered a lasting impact locally, and this recognition is thoroughly deserved,” he said.

Jane has been a key advocate for better road safety, improved mobile reception and greater access to early childhood education. Her efforts follow her recognition as the 2025 Upper Hunter Shire Citizen of the Year.

She is also heavily involved in community fundraising and events, including the Cassilis Ball and the Giro de Cassilis bike ride. Beyond her local work, Jane has served on NSW Farmers Association committees, contributing to renewable energy, trade and economic policy discussions.

Mr Layzell said her leadership demonstrates the influence small communities can have when people work together towards shared goals.
