Brunners Bridge near Singleton has been officially opened, but traffic won’t be able to cross the bridge until Friday afternoon.
The $7.2 million project replaces an ageing crossing that had long reached the end of its lifespan.
The State and Federal Governments partnered with Singleton Council to deliver the new structure, which features a higher 68.5‑tonne load limit, wider lanes and an improved road surface. The bridge is a key route linking Singleton, Elderslie and Gresford, and provides heavy‑vehicle access to the Hunter Regional Livestock Exchange.

The upgrade included the full demolition of the old bridge, the installation of a new culvert and approaches, and the construction of a modern, heavy‑duty crossing capable of supporting larger freight vehicles. Council says the improvements will ease pressure on nearby roads and boost reliability for local industry.

Singleton Mayor Sue Moore thanked residents for their patience during the extended road closure. She said the project has been a long-term priority for Council and will “benefit Singleton for decades”.
The bridge will reopen to motorists on Friday afternoon once final works, including line-marking and guardrail installation, are complete.
