Students across the Hunter region will gain access to advanced HSC subjects from 2027 under a new statewide subject guarantee. The State Government says the change will ensure every NSW public high school student can study the most academically demanding courses, regardless of where they live or which school they attend.
Under the HSC Subject Guarantee, students will be able to enrol in advanced and extension courses through Aurora College, the state’s virtual public school. Access to Aurora College has previously been focused on rural and remote areas, but the expansion will now extend to metropolitan and regional schools alike.
Eleven courses will be offered virtually for the first time to all public school students, including English Advanced and Extensions, Mathematics Advanced and Extensions, Chemistry, Physics, Science Extension, Economics and History Extension. The initiative aims to overcome staffing and timetable limitations that prevent some schools from offering specialist subjects face to face.
