HALLOWEENIE: HUNTER VALLEY DOG RESCUE BRINGS DACHSHUND FUN TO THE COMMUNITY

A spooky day out with a serious purpose: helping rescue dogs find their forever homes

Our local dachshund rescue organisation Wiener Crew Rescue is bringing its love of long dogs and Halloween together for HalloWEENIE, a community fundraising event supporting the rescue of dachshunds and dachshund crosses across the Hunter and surrounding areas.

Taking place on Sunday, 1 November 2026, HalloWEENIE will give dachshund lovers, dog families and the wider community a chance to enjoy a fun-filled day while helping dogs who need a second chance.

The event will feature dachshund-themed activities, market stalls, fundraising opportunities and plenty of opportunities for the community to celebrate their love of the breed.

But behind the costumes, tiny legs and big personalities is an important message.

Wiener Crew Rescue relies heavily on donations, volunteers, foster carers and community support to continue helping dogs in need.

Rescue dogs can arrive needing everything from veterinary treatment and vaccinations to dental procedures, desexing, behavioural support and ongoing foster care. For some dogs, the cost of giving them a fresh start can run into thousands of dollars.

“HalloWEENIE is about bringing the community together for something fun, but it also gives people an opportunity to see what goes on behind the scenes in dog rescue,” said a Wiener Crew Rescue representative.

“We want people to come along, dress up their wieners, meet other dog lovers and have a great day, while knowing their support is helping dogs who desperately need it.”

Wiener Crew Rescue is a breed-specific rescue dedicated to dachshunds and dachshund crosses. The organisation works with foster carers and volunteers to provide rescued dogs with safe homes, veterinary care and the opportunity to find loving permanent families.

GET YOUR WIENER READY!

Dachshunds and their humans are encouraged to embrace the Halloween theme, with plenty of opportunities to get creative with costumes.

Whether your dachshund is a tiny vampire, a spooky sausage, a pumpkin princess or simply arrives dressed as themselves, HalloWEENIE is set to be a celebration of everything that makes these little dogs so special.

The event is also an opportunity for local businesses and community members to get involved by supporting the rescue through sponsorship, donations, market stalls and volunteering.
