Muswellbrook Shire Council has launched an improved Bulky Waste Service, giving eligible households greater flexibility in how and when they dispose of large household items.
Developed in response to community feedback, the service provides eligible households with two entitlements each financial year. Residents can use them as two waste disposal vouchers, two kerbside bulky waste pickups, or one of each.
Mayor Jeff Drayton said the improved service was making bulky waste disposal easier and more practical for local households.
“Some people would prefer to take their waste directly to a facility when it suits them, while others need the convenience of having it collected from the kerb,” Cr Drayton said. He said the new approach would also help reduce the amount of bulky waste sitting on streets for extended periods.
Waste disposal vouchers can be used at the Muswellbrook Waste and Recycling Facility for up to 300 kilograms of eligible waste, or at the Denman Domestic Waste Transfer Station for up to two cubic metres per visit. Bulky waste pickups allow residents to book a kerbside collection of up to two cubic metres, about one 6 by 4 box trailer. Collections run across Council’s three waste collection zones, with one zone serviced each week and a pickup opportunity about every three weeks. Waste must only be put out on the Sunday before the confirmed collection, with collections on Monday and Tuesday.
The service is available to residential properties receiving Council’s domestic waste collection service, including eligible rural properties with the three-bin service. Business properties are not eligible.
It accepts items including furniture, whitegoods, scrap metal and certain electronic waste, but not mattresses, tyres, building materials, garden waste or hazardous waste.
Residents can access their entitlements through Council’s new Bulky Waste Service webpage using their property address and Rates Assessment Number, which is on their Rates and Charges Notice.
Council will also introduce annual Mattress and Tyre Muster Days in Muswellbrook and Denman, where residents can dispose of a limited number of mattresses and tyres free of charge. Dates will be announced closer to the events.
