The Westpac Rescue Helicopter crew has faced a demanding few days, responding to three separate incidents across the Upper Hunter since Friday.
The first call came on Friday morning, when the helicopter was tasked by NSW Ambulance to an ATV rollover west of Merriwa. A man in his 60s was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics and the helicopter’s critical care medical team for head, chest and facial injuries, before being airlifted to John Hunter Hospital.
The following morning, the crew was called to Muswellbrook after a man in his 50s suffered a serious medical episode. NSW Ambulance paramedics treated him before he was transported to Muswellbrook Hospital, where he was met by the helicopter’s critical care medical team, stabilised, and then airlifted to John Hunter Hospital.
Yesterday, the helicopter was tasked with an urgent inter-hospital transfer, flying a man in his 60s from Muswellbrook Hospital to John Hunter Hospital after he developed a serious medical condition. He was stabilised by hospital staff, a NSW Ambulance critical care paramedic and a NSW Health doctor from the helicopter’s critical care medical team before the flight to Newcastle.
