If you’ve picked up a Mistral vacuum cleaner from Bunnings in the past year, it might be worth checking the model number before your next clean.
A nationwide recall has been issued for two Mistral Barrel Cyclonic Vacuum Cleaner models due to concerns that they could overheat and potentially catch fire.
Which Vacuums Are Affected?
The recall applies to the Mistral Barrel Cyclonic Vacuum Cleaner 1800W (BVC160) and the 2400W model (BVC165), sold at Bunnings stores across Australia between July 2025 and May 2026.
According to the recall notice, a manufacturing defect may cause the vacuum motor to overheat while in use.

Why The Recall Matters
Authorities say there is a risk of serious burns and property damage if the motor overheats and catches fire. Several incidents have already been reported, including unusual noises, unpleasant smells, and smoke coming from the affected units.
What You Should Do
Anyone with one of the affected vacuum cleaners is urged to stop using it immediately and disconnect it from the power source. Customers can return the product to any Bunnings store for a full refund.
It might not be the most exciting way to spend a trip to Bunnings, but it’s certainly better than discovering your vacuum has decided to become a smoke machine.
