A merit appeal against the refusal of a plan to restart the Redbank Power Station south of Singleton is set to be heard in the Land and Environment Court next month.

Verdant Earth Technologies Limited lodged the appeal after the Independent Planning Commission refused its state significant development application to convert and restart the dormant power station.

The company had proposed generating energy by burning up to 700,000 dry tonnes of biomass per year at the site, a proposal which was met by opposition by Singleton Council and nearby residents, as well as the Nature Conservation Council of New South Wales.

The appeal hearing is scheduled to run from 20 to 24 July at the Land and Environment Court in Sydney. A site inspection of the Redbank facility is set to be conducted prior to the courtroom proceedings getting underway.
