A man has faced court charged over a house fire that destroyed a home in Singleton on Sunday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to Castlereagh Street about 5.30pm following reports of a fire.
Police were told a 41-year-old man allegedly threw fuel on his father, a 68-year-old man, before flames were later seen coming from the property.
The older man ran from the scene and washed the fuel from his body but was not injured. Firefighters extinguished the blaze, however the home was completely destroyed.
The 41-year-old was arrested a short time later and taken to Cessnock Police Station. Police say methamphetamine was allegedly found during a search.
He was charged with throw or lay down explosive with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (domestic violence-related), damage property by fire or explosion greater than $15,000 (domestic violence-related), and possess prohibited drug.
He didn’t apply for bail and is due to appear in Newcastle Local Court in January.
