A 36-year-old Muswellbrook man accused of leading police on a dangerous high-speed chase through the Upper Hunter has been granted conditional bail following his first court appearance.

Police allege the man was behind the wheel of a HSV Clubsport clocked at up to 170 kilometres an hour along Bengalla Road on Thursday afternoon.

Officers attempted to stop the car, but the driver allegedly failed to pull over, sparking a pursuit that continued onto Wybong Road before being called off due to safety concerns.

The vehicle was later seen travelling back towards Muswellbrook, where police arrested the 36-year-old man — who by that point was sitting in the passenger seat.

He was charged with multiple offences including police pursuit, dangerous driving, driving while cancelled, and failing to disclose the driver.

Appearing in the Bail Division Court today (Friday October 31, 2025), the man was granted bail under strict conditions, including a nightly 8pm to 6am curfew, a driving ban, and reporting three times a week to Muswellbrook Police Station.

He’s due to reappear in Muswellbrook Local Court on November 4.
